First thing's first, we're going to take a look at the design of the Yamaha PSR E453. It is important to remember that this is not designed to be an elegant piano. It is geared towards the studio and live performances. It certainly doesn't feel as high quality as some of the others in the Yamaha range, but it is good for what it is.
One of the things that we liked was how lightweight it is. We found that this made it perfect for live performances. There are only 61 keys with this digital piano, so it is definitely more suitable for the beginner. However, there are easily enough keys to get you to a moderate skill level.
One of the design features that we particularly liked with the Yamaha PSR E453 was the LCD screen. Backlit in blue; we found that it was crystal clear and very easy to read. It makes accessing the different voices and modes much simpler.
Where this piano really stands out is the sheer amount of features that it offers; especially for a keyboard that is geared towards players of this proficiency level. This Yamaha digital piano uses AWM generation to produce the different voices which makes them sound much more authentic.
The one thing that really blew us away was the number of voices that you get with this keyboard. There are a staggering 758 voices to choose from so your composing opportunities really are endless. It also features an easy to use grand piano feature which is very close in sound to the real thing.
We also really liked the lesson mode. This is ideal for complete beginners because it allows you to start learning from scratch and takes you through all of the basics that you could possibly need in order to start playing the piano.
As with a lot of the high end Yamaha digital pianos, the Yamaha PSR E453 has a Duo Mode. With this, the keys are split down the middle to allow a student and teacher to play the same notes at the same time.
We did feel that this keyboard is perhaps a little expensive given that it is more suited to beginners, however, you are paying for a reputable brand. It is also worth keeping in mind that there are only 61 keys which does limit the amount that you are going to be able to learn.
However, the plus points far outweigh those two negatives, so we definitely think that the Yamaha PSR E453 is worth the money and we still highly recommend it.
