Pianos are very expensive commodities, luckily digital pianos make the investment easier on the pocket. I’m going to try and break the zeitgeist that, “more pricey = better quality” by listing some of my favourite digital pianos under £500.
The first piano I’d recommend is the Casio CDP-120 (CHECK PRICE!). Not only do you get the CDP-120, but you also get a set of headphones, bench and a stand to boot. Always keep a look out for these deals as they can save you a fortune of money in the long term.
Also included is a small CD and a DVD with a note finder and exercise book to help out those who are new to piano playing. If you are new to piano playing this keyboard is almost certainly your way to go as it sets you up for many musical exploits to come. Unfortunately though, it is lacking a pedal which can sometimes be instrumental to truly great piano playing.
Uniquely, you can also plug in the CDP-120 with your PC at home in order to download new sound files and drivers via USB to make sure that you have the best piano playing experience possible. You can also download some custom sound files of the internet to install on your piano so you can always be discovering something completely new.

The second piano I’d recommend is the Yamaha PSR-S650. At the first look this keyboard no doubt looks more than a little intimidating, but once you get to know it you can discover a real marvel of musical engineering.
Each button and knob contributes so much to the final sound that you’ll be chastising others for touching anything. Everything can be adjusted to just how you want it meaning that the keyboard is very user friendly. Its large foreboding speakers on both sides of the keyboard boom the chords and melodies, so you can be sure you’ll hear what you’re playing.
The PSR-S650 has a remarkable 357 voices to play around with, 181 piano styles with guitar enhancement, custom scale tuning and a 16 track recorder, making sure your magnum opus remains perfect the way it is.

Our recommended alternative is The Yamaha PSR-E373 Digital Keyboard - A Versatile, Entry-Level Keyboard with 61 Touch-Sensitive Keys, 622 Instrument Voices, in a Black Finish
The final piano I’d recommend is the MP8820. Unfortunately, the MP8820 doesn’t carry the same brand recognition that the Casio and Yamaha do, but it does come with a seat, stand and headphones to make up for the shortcoming. The MP8820 is also noticeably the most aesthetically pleasing keyboard out of the bunch. The weighted keys on the MP8820 really help accentuate the experience of playing a real piano which can go a long way when purchasing a digital piano.
The price of the MP8820 is by quite a margin the best, but it comes at the loss of not that many voices or styles to play around with. You also can not plug it into your computer so you may be upset at the lack of customisation options that are available to you with this keyboard. This keyboard will more likely be your ideal candidate for which keyboard to buy if you are looking for something simpler to learn and use.
